Teaching Social Skills - Utilising Video and other Explicit Methods

Thursday 7 November 2019

9:30am - 3:00pm

The Carrington, 505 Wyndham St Shepparton

Who to send:

  • Members of Behaviour Support Teams
  • Members of Positive Behaviour Framework Implementation Teams
  • Pastoral Wellbeing Leaders
  • School staff interested in explicitly teaching social skills to support student success

Presenter:  Dan Petro, Behaviour Analyst

Designed to support team sustainability, planning and implementation in 2020...

Most children develop desirable social skills by observing these skills being modelled by others in their world. These environments include home, school, church, sports and even television shows and movies.

As adults, we expect children to already possess these skills; this can become an unfulfilled hope leading to frustration when expected skills are not evident.

This professional learning provides evidence-based practices to support the effective teaching of social skills using easy to develop, very brief lessons. Emphasis will be placed on utilisation of video as a powerful tool for social skills instruction, and as a means of developing school-wide consistency for social skills instruction and outcomes.
