Unit Outline:

In this unit students examine various forms of prayer used within the school and local community. Attention is drawn to the influences of other religious traditions on the choice and practice of prayer forms. Opportunity is given for the students to explore how prayer relates to, but is not bound by, a particular time and space. Students also investigate how prayer can build community.

Achievement Standards:

By the end of Year 8 students should be able to:
Examine various forms of prayer that have arisen from cultural and scriptural faith traditions over time.
Engage in various forms of prayer.

Unit Outcomes:

By the end of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Identify prayer as a means of developing a relationship with God.
  2. Explore scriptural examples of personal, communal and liturgical prayer.
  3. Understand the importance of different mediums of expression in prayer.
  4. Recognise how prayer in our school/parish community nourishes and enriches our relationship with God and each other.
  5. Research the forms of prayer appropriate to the different religious and cultural traditions represented in the local school community.
