Catholic Education Sandhurst Limited (CESL) is thrilled to announce a new Catholic primary school opening in Huntly in 2027. St Thomas Aquinas School will be a state-of-the-art education facility, designed to serve the growing needs of the Huntly community.

Catholic Education Sandhurst Executive Director Kate Fogarty made the announcement on the site of the planned school which is located on a parcel of land abounding Pasley and Rennie streets in Huntly.

Bendigo firm Y2 Architecture has been appointed the successful company to design the regions newest Catholic primary school.

“Their expertise and commitment to excellence align perfectly with our goals for the new Catholic primary school," says Kate.

“Their impressive portfolio and dedication to creating spaces that foster learning and community engagement makes them the ideal partner for this project.”

The school will eventually be home to more than 600 students. Y2 Architecture director Matt Dwyer said the plans have accomodated for parents to drop off and pick up children on-site as much as possible.

"Stage one will certainly accommodate more than enough parking for students coming onto the site," says Matt.

The name of the new school - St Thomas Aquinas School - has been chosen in honour of the original church of the area which was established 150 years ago. Although the Church was decommissioned in the 1980s, St Thomas' served the community of Huntly for 110 years.

The new Huntly Primary School will feature cutting-edge facilities to ensure students have access to the best possible resources for the children of the Huntly region.

Construction is set to begin in 2026 with the school to open its doors to students in 2027. The school will initially cater for Foundation, Grades 1 and 2 students, growing to a full cohort in 2031.

The school will employ about 50 staff who would run the Magnify Sandhurst program already used across Catholic Education Sandhurst's education network.

"It's experienced teachers coming in straight away with calm, ordered classrooms," says Kate.

An area has been allocated on site for the inclusion of an Early Learning Centre in the future.
