Catholic Education Sandhurst welcomed 35 members of the Sandhurst Aboriginal Network for a powerful professional development day focused on deepening cultural understanding and embedding Aboriginal perspectives in teaching and learning.
Led by Jordyn Green - a proud Wiradjuri, Ngemba and Paakantji woman, primary teacher, and founder of The Yulang Effect - the day offered educators the opportunity to connect, reflect and grow in their practice. Jordyn also introduced her resource Planning for Connection, a tool designed to support schools in authentically integrating Aboriginal perspectives into the curriculum.
“Today was really important for educators to see that they are changemakers,” said Jordyn. “We can create a future society that’s free from racism, where First Nations communities thrive, starting with our students now in the classroom.”
Catholic Education Sandhurst Aboriginal Education Lead Michael Chisholm said the day was part of an ongoing commitment to support staff across the diocese.
“The takeaway for today is certainly around embedding the Aboriginal perspective into the curriculum and providing tangible resources. Partnering with Jordyn and The Yulang Effect has been really empowering for participants. We’re proud of the strong foundation of our network, and we look forward to growing this space even further.”
As educators shared stories, challenges and ideas, one theme rang clear - that cultural understanding isn’t a checkbox, but a relationship. And it begins with connection.
